Kintsugi – Embrace Your Cracks and Give Them a Golden Lining (KTS01)

The Japanese have a custom of filling the cracks of broken objects with gold. It is called ‘Kintsugi’ – golden joinery. They believe that when something has suffered damage it only adds to its history and beauty. Kintsugi belongs to Japanese Zen philosophy. It is part of wabi sabi – the art of finding beauty in the imperfections of life. It cherishes what is simple, unpretentious and aged.

The art of kintsugi holds a particular wisdom, especially in this age which worships youth, perfection and the new. It is as applicable to our own lives as it is to a broken tea jar. Ceramics are fragile, strong and beautiful at the same time. And so are we. It is important to find the confidence to respect what is damaged and scarred, vulnerable and imperfect – starting with ourselves and those around us. In this course I will help you to embrace your cracks and give them a gold lining.
